On July 4th 1776, in Independence Hall, we declared that we are Independent:

that all men are created equal,
that they are endowed by their Creator
with certain unalienable Rights,
that among these are
Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

“The Independent” mural is a Tribute to the Evolution of Liberty.

The mural’s colors and skies celebrate acceptance and respect for all people. The vibrancy of Independence Hall exudes the energy of a masterful moral imperative that has been entrusted to us by our founding fathers, one that we must protect at all times, one that we share with others as equals within our democratic principles, and one that we must improve upon for our future generations.

About the Muralist:

The Mural is the beautiful work of Kim Senior. Senior is an accomplished Philadelphia artist whose mural and screen paintings can be seen around the city in both classical and contemporary styles.

For The Independent, she has created a colorful, exquisite rendering of Philadelphia’s Independence Hall, which spans three stories, rising from the hotel’s lobby.

As soon as you step outside of the elevator, the lobby reveals itself in artistic splendor, unveiling a striking piece of work as vibrant as the city it represents.

“I wanted to allude to the local history expressed with the name ‘The Independent’, and have a joyous, exuberant, vivid statement that would convey the fresh attitude and excitement of spirit that is happening in Philly now,” said Senior, “I have been in Philadelphia now for almost 30 years; in that time the skyline has changed, and many neighborhoods have been revived. The refurbishing of 1234 Locust, maintains the external architectural face of the building, while giving it a renewed interior. I am thrilled to be taking part in that with my mural.”
